Hi.....Still Sick

I'm starting to get angry here. I've had this cold/cough thing for 7 days now and I can't remember ever being sick this long. And by sick I mean I have so little energy that getting out of bed to eat something wipes me out. Usually I'll have a little cold but it doesn't really stop me from doing anything. This week I've missed church, work and rehearsals. Seriously, I'm DONE already.

Ear infections and fevers and sickness oh my!

There's nothing I hate more than being sick. AJ started it last week, followed by Eliana and now me! Fortunately they're pretty much done with it all but I'm only on day 2 and I can't wait for it to be over. I didn't move from my bed yesterday but once. Thanks to the greatest husband ever for taking the kids to church, doing laundry and making dinner!

Inauguration Fever and School Choice

It's been on TV all day and even the kids got into it! Eliana has been saying Barack Obama all day and AJ wants to go see the White House. He's actually already seen it but he was only 15 months old so I showed him the pictures from that little vacation we took....seems like so long ago. In other exciting news, Jonathan and I went to an open house at a charter school we'd love AJ to go to in the fall. Unfortunately there's a lottery and siblings of kids who already go there get preference. We find out in February if he gets one of the slots for kindergarten. We pretty much NEVER get our name picked in raffles and stuff so say a prayer!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case you haven't heard yet.....

Since our kids, especially AJ eat peanut butter almost every day, I was in a state of panic when I heard this. Fortunately for us we just use jarred peanut butter and the main issue is in the other other peanut products. Here's the scoop on the recall.

Mouse in the House

Literally. This is so disgusting!!!! And you know what? It's not the 1st time the dirty little rodents have shown their faces. Apparently my very secretive husband killed 2 the other week, one with a grill tool that made the mouse squeal as it was dying (which he threw away immediately afterward) and one with his bare hands while wearing some heavy duty work gloves. He was very proud of himself and I was too except when I asked if he had called an exterminator and he replied "Well I thought I had taken care of it." Um, no. Some of his/her family members have now taken the lead role in searching for food at the Burns house. So today I learned some useful rodent information from Griggs and Browne, which may help you in the future, so take note:

1. Mice like clutter so they can hide and feel safe eating the food they've found on your floor or wherever. So clean out those corners and under the couch and stuff!

2. They can climb stairs.

3. Make sure their are NO spaces in your bulkhead or the little suckers will waltz right in and make your home theirs.

We have some "devices" in place now. Hopefully they'll work quickly and our little friends will die a quick, painless death and never be seen or heard from again.

Who's Crafty Now?

I'm always envious of people who can create beautiful things with their hands.....definitely not a strength of mine. That being said, with the help of Jonathan's mom, I made this adorable blanket for my friend Shannan's new baby. Pretty good huh? I'm hoping she doesn't read this before the shower on Sunday.
If you look close enough you'll notice a HUGE mistake I made. The words are spelled backwards, which means I used the wrong side of the fleece as front. Two hours of untying and retying later, here's the revised version held for the camera by Jonathan.

Quotes from my Kids

Eliana: (while putting stickers on her wall) "This one's not cooperating."
Me: "Do you understand what I mean?"
Eliana: "Yeah, I see what you're saying Mommy."
AJ: "Mommy, I'll be Tom Brady and you be Randy Moss."
Me: (after seeing something AJ invented) "You're such a good scientist AJ!"
AJ: "Well, in fact, I am very smart."

2009 to-do list

Since I don't do New Year's Resolutions I've decided a to-do list would work better for me. So here it is and please check in on me and make sure I'm keeping up with it!

1. Read the ENTIRE Bible this year. I have a one year Bible and have never gotten through it all. The key is not missing any days so there's no playing catch up.

2. Start strength training consistently again. Dancing alone doesn't cut it anymore so out come the elastabands and free weights!

3. Start a book club.

4. Go to bed at the same time every night.

5. Cook everything I can from scratch.

That's a good start right? Check back I may have more soon.

Extreme Motherhood

I'm a big fan of 20/20 and since Jonathan is out tonight I plan on giving it my full attention for the title of the program tonight is...."Extreme Motherhood." What is on this list you might ask? Topics being discussed include home birth and extended breastfeeding. WHAT?!?!?! This is extreme? Women have been giving birth at home longer than in hospitals and most women around the globe nurse way longer than the average American. But hey if it's not what mainstream America is doing then it must be weird right? So annoying. Oh and by the way, Happy New Year everyone!
